Usually our Sunday afternoons are spent resting, reading, baking or quietly playing. Yesterday, it was such a nice day that we decided to go to the "fieldhouse" (local high school field) to shoot Ben's new rocket. We usually walk over as it is not that far, but I am glad this time we took the car, because we were all "set up" and realized Ben didn't bring his "wadding paper" (evidently this is important). This meant a trip back home, so Burlin left to find the forgotten items, and I passed the time taking a few pictures.
This is Ben's rocket (he picked this out with part of his birthday money). Burlin made the launching pad using "odds and ends" around the house, which I am very grateful as it cost $40 at Hobby Lobby!
Ben waiting patiently to get started! And, not too happy with mom for taking pictures..
Audrey isn't "camera shy"...she will pose anytime! She must have some Anna in her (Anna loves taking self-portraits)......the sun was a bit bright..a beautiful sunny day

I must apologize for the poor video.....I have never tried to follow a launching rocket before....it is harder than it seems!
First fire went well, but because it landed in the road we decided to move back a little more. However, after the second launch, we lost the rocket. We are not sure if the wind shifted, or the rocket wasn't quite square, or exactly what happened, but we couldn't find it anywhere. We walked a while trying to find it: in the stadium, through the fields, even around some neighboring houses......no luck!
Lessons learned the hard way:
- Bigger doesn't always mean better......sure the bigger motor goes the greater distance, but that isn't always a good thing!
- Write our name, address, and phone number on the rocket....just in case someone might find it, and return it.
- Maybe attach fishing line to the rocket.....easier to find!
Well, launching rockets must be exhausting work because this is what happened to Ben and Burlin afterwards:
This is how Abigail and Anna spent their afternoon:
Audrey had fun helping me take pictures of all the "sleeping beauties"....
Oh I love it!!! You got some great shots of your sleeping beauties!!!! Too bad about Ben's rocket, though. He must be pretty upset. :( He looks a lot like Bur in that picture!
